Rare Earth (NdFeB) Magnets Recycling
Closing the loop on magnet supply -
high-purity recycling, zero or limited waste
Because the clean-energy transition shouldn’t depend on the next mine
1. Overview / Opportunity
NdFeB magnets power EV motors, turbines, electronics, and medical devices.
They represent >90 % of the US $10 B+ global rare-earth magnet market, growing ~7.5 % annually to 2040.
With demand surging, GEOMEGA ensures these rare elements stay in circulation instead of landfills.
2. Challenge / Industry Context
Over 90 % of global magnet production and ~75 % of REE oxides come from one region.
Mining new supply is energy-intensive and environmentally prohibitive. Short-loop magnet-to-magnet recycling often degrades magnetic performance and requires added REE feedstock.
GEOMEGA offers a clean alternative — full elemental recycling with no property loss.
3. GEOMEGA’s Approach
Our process chemically disassembles magnets into their elemental components within a closed-loop, zero-waste system.
It recovers REE oxides, iron, and other metal by-products while recycling >90 % of reagents.
No cryogrinding, no hydrogen decrepitation — just clean, high-yield chemistry.
Performance
• >90 % REE recovery
• >99 % TREO purity (Nd, Pr, Dy, Tb)
• ~67 % iron purity by-product
• ~54 % GHG reduction vs traditional REE routes
• Potential H₂ co-generation as clean fuel by-product
5. Value Creation
The small footprint Saint-Hubert demonstration plant, currently under construction, is designed to process 1.5 tonnes of magnet waste per day. This includes end of life magnets, production scraps and swarf from magnets machining.
• REE oxides >99 % pure
• High-purity iron product
• Boric acid precursor and Co/Ni/Cu concentrates
· Hydrogen gas as a secondary revenue stream
Full loop magnet recycling could supply up to 70 % of Nd demand for EVs by 2050 — a foundation for North American supply independence.
6. Environmental & Social Impact
• Zero tailings and zero or limited wastewater
• 50 % lower GHG emissions vs conventional REE supply
• Circular reuse of critical metals reduces new mining demand
• Supports community and regulatory ESG targets
7. Partnership & Scalability
• Demonstration plant under construction near Montréal (TRL 7 to 8)
• Project financed by Federal and Provincial governments ($8M CAD)
• Licensing / JV / Build-Own-Operate (BOO) models for regional deployment directly at the magnet manufacturer’s facility
Let’s redefine how the world sources its rare earths.
