Mechanical Engineering Technician
Role Overview
GEOMEGA is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Technician to support the design, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of laboratory and pilot-scale processing equipment. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working close to equipment, solving practical mechanical problems, and contributing directly to the development of new industrial technologies.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare cost and material estimates for equipment, components, and subcontracted work (electrical, plumbing, HVAC)
Design and/or modify small laboratory and pilot-scale equipment, ensuring proper component selection and process compatibility
Identify, contact, and coordinate with suppliers and service providers for technical information, quotations, and follow-ups
Perform fabrication, assembly, and adjustment of laboratory and pilot-scale equipment
Participate in planning and layout of pilot lines: equipment installation, electrical power, pneumatic/gas supply, process piping, ventilation
Actively participate in commissioning of new equipment and pilot lines, including start-up support and system demonstrations
Skills & Qualifications
Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, fabrication drawings, mechanical assembly drawings, and P&IDs
Fabrication skills: marking, drilling, tapping, basic machining, and welding
Mechanical assembly experience, from simple to complex systems
Experience with piping and tubing systems (PEX, flexible, threaded, compression fittings)
Familiarity with industrial pumps (metering, diaphragm, piston, centrifugal)
DEC diploma preferred; bilingual (English/French) preferred
